beer

The White Horse is one of the most celebrated beer pubs in the U.K.

We maintain a large number of exceptional cask ales, imported keg beers (from Belgium to U.S.A. ) and a unique selection of bottled beers and ales.

We host regular beer festivals, ranging from smaller cask ale genres, with 15 beers available to our famous Old Ale Festival in November with over 50 beers! Please check out our NEWS AND EVENTS PAGE page to see what's upcoming.

Beer also plays an integral part in our food offer, with all our menu dishes having a beer pairing, suggested by our cellarmen. We also host beer and food matching courses, run by the Beer Academy.

Bottled Beers

We have over 135 bottled beers from around the world each of which is outstanding in its style category and deserves to be called ‘world classic’. Of particular note is the fact that we have gathered beers from each of the six of the seven trappist monasteries currently brewing as well as spotting some great, now mainstream, beers more than a decade ago (e.g. Budvar and Hoegaarden). Please see our bottled beer list.

Cask Ales

We regularly have 6 – 8 cask ales available. Some of our regular favourites are:

Adnams Broadside

The Sole Bay brewery, established in 1890, offers this amber red ale with a firm but remarkably smooth body. Mellow nutty, malt flavours are blended with cherry-like fruitiness.

Harvey's Best Bitter
Established on the banks of the River Ouse in the late 18 th century, it's Victorian Gothic tower and brew house dominate the Lewes town centre. The beer has a good balance of malt and strong hops flavour which develop into a bitter hoppy aftertaste. The house yeast also imparts that extra little bit of spiciness in the flavour.

Rooster's Yankee
The Rooster's brewery was set up in 1993 by Sean Franklin, a former wine producer in Bordeaux. The straw-coloured beer has a delicate aroma and gentle sweetness of citrus and orange peel, finishing light and pleasant. A truly refreshing beer to be enjoyed at any time.

JHB
John Wood established Oakham Ales in 1993.Impressive straw-coloured quaffing bitter with bold, floral, grassy hop, grapefruit and kiwi fruit and little sweetness followed by a long, dry aftertaste.

Draught Beers

Draught beers include the Czech classic pilsner Staropramen, Hoegaarden Witbier from Belgium, Rothaus from Germany and Guinness, Grolsch and Carling from the UK.
